GDPR Radio – Episode 130

This episode was hosted by Joe Kirk, Phil Brining and Jasmine Harrison.

Cookies, Contracts and Pornhub

Welcome to this week’s episode of the Data Protection Made Easy podcast with Jasmine Harrison, Phil Brining, and Joe Kirk. In this GDPR Radio session, we covered a range of topics, both on and off brand. Joe provided some insights on the EU-US privacy framework and the imminent decision on adequacy. We also delved into the intriguing world of cookies and how they are used to collect data, which led us to discuss the topic of porn and its implications for data protection.

But don’t worry, we stayed focused on data protection throughout the discussion. We explored the recurring themes of cookies and pixels being placed before consent and the transfer of extensive information without user rejection. A recent example we examined was the passing of users’ browsing habits and preferences on pornographic websites, highlighting the ongoing concerns related to data profiling.

We also discussed the annual report on privacy concerns published by IAPs, emphasizing the high percentage of organizations that still consider privacy as one of their top operational and organizational risks. Furthermore, we touched upon the impatience of the ICO regarding cookies and the call for a “reject all” button to be implemented.

The session covered a wide range of topics, including breaches, third-party compliance, due diligence, and the performance of contracts. We hope that our lively and informative discussion left you with valuable insights and perspectives.

We invite you to listen to the podcast and join us next week for an episode focused on special category data and the complexities surrounding consent. In the meantime, enjoy Phil’s Robertson’s insights and anecdotes, as we navigate the ever-evolving world of data protection.

Thank you for tuning in, and we look forward to continuing the conversation with you in our future episodes. Stay informed, stay engaged, and stay passionate about data protection.
